Methodology

Egle.news is an atlas of ongoing conflicts and crises, built for people who follow international affairs every day: informed readers, analysts, researchers and students of strategic studies.

Level scale

5 · WarHigh-intensity war: large-scale fighting, systematic use of conventional forces.

4 · ConflictActive armed conflict: regular, organised clashes of medium intensity.

3 · CrisisViolent crisis: recurring but localised or intermittent violence.

2 · TensionHigh tension: militarised or coercive confrontation, concrete risk of escalation.

1 · WatchSituation to monitor: latent disputes, fragile balances.

The scale is inspired by those used by conflict research institutes (HIIK, UCDP). The trend shows the direction over the last 4 weeks.

Global chaos index

A 0–100 value computed from the levels of all monitored theaters, with greater weight for higher intensities. It is not a forecast: it captures how much the international system is “burning” today.

How it is updated

Last update: . The atlas updates itself twice a day (around 06:30 and 18:30 Central European Time):

for each theater, international press headlines from the last 3 days are collected (Google News, with GDELT as a fallback);
an AI model (Claude Opus) updates developments and summaries using only those headlines, under a rule not to add facts, figures or dates that do not appear in them;
level and trend change only with an explicit justification, recorded in the change history;
the front line in Ukraine is rebuilt every day from uacontrolmap.com data.

The starting profiles and the areas and points on the map were curated through open-source research (October 2026): areas and points are indicative. The texts of the theater profiles are machine-translated from Italian.
